Balangir, March 11: There seems to be no end to the simmering tension between the chairperson of Balangir Municipality Damayanti Bag and the Opposition councillors, even after passing the no-confidence motion against her.
The situation tuned so ugly yesterday that executive officer of Balangir Municipality Pradeep Gardia today lodged a complaint against three Congress councillors for allegedly misbehaving with the vice-chairman of the municipality, Sadanand Naik.
Municipality sources said that 14 councillors of the 21-ward councils of the municipality opposed the budget and plans for 2011-12 presented at the council meeting yesterday by the chairperson. The councillors reportedly wanted a discussion on the budget before signing documents. The chairperson, however, refused to discuss on the budget, and continued the meeting with her aides, leaving the opposition councillors aside.
The Congress councillors, namely Soumendra Parichha, Muna Khan and Pradeep Mishra, allegedly misbehaved with vice-chairman Sadananda Naik and verbally abused him. Naik reported the matter to the chairperson, who in turn asked the executive officer to take necessary action. Executive officer Pradeep Gardia lodged the complaint.
Inspector-in-charge of Balangir town police station Bimalendu Satapathy said that he had asked for report from the executive officer about the incident that took place yesterday.
