Angul: Police will seek remand of two persons currently lodged in Angul jail for their alleged involvement in two bank robberies in the district.

"We will seek 15 days' remand for the two accused to gather information about the incidents," said sub-divisional police officer Harihar Pani.

The police's remand plea would follow the test identification parade, which took place on Monday in the jail in presence of the magistrate.

The police came to know that Rajesh Das and Om Prakash Das, both from Gaya district in Bihar, were part of a six-seven member gang that was allegedly involved in two bank robberies in Angul and other parts of the state and outside.

In Angul, they looted an Andhra Bank branch on April 6 and an Indian Bank branch on July 7.

"About six to seven persons, all from outside the state, were involved in the loot. We have arrested only two of them, while the others, including the kingpin, are still at large. Both Odisha and Bihar police are trying to nab them. We are also investigating their local connections, because without the support of local residents, they could not have executed such robberies. We expect that the accused will spill the information once they are in remand," Pani said.

On April 6, six armed goons struck an Andhra Bank branch and looted Rs 27 lakh and gold ornaments. In a similar manner, six armed men stormed into an Indian Bank branch here and looted Rs 8 lakh in cash and gold ornaments on July 7. In both the cases, they took away the hard disks of CCTV cameras installed in the banks.
