Bhubaneswar, April 10: The Central Bureau of Investigation today submitted a supplementary chargesheet against the Artha Tatwa Group, which allegedly swindled around Rs 1,200 crore from thousands of investors across the state.
The 150-page additional chargesheet indicted two former directors of the company, Manoj Patnaik and Jagabandhu Panda, apart from suspending deputy superintendent of police Pramod Panda, who has been accused of taking financial benefits from the company.
The chargesheet contained names of 30 witnesses and was submitted at the court of special chief judicial magistrate, CBI. On December 11 last year, the central agency had submitted a preliminary chargesheet against 16 persons, including the group's chairman-cum-managing director Pradeep Sethy, former advocate-general Asok Mohanty and Banki legislator Pravat Tripathy.
The preliminary chargesheet mentioned fraud of worth Rs 200 crore by the money deposit collection company. It had also mentioned the names of 304 witnesses.
On the role of police officer Panda, the chargesheet mentioned that an amount of Rs 9 lakh was diverted to the account of Panda's wife from the AT Group.
On November 18 last year, the investigating agency had raided Panda's residence in Bhadrak and seized incriminating documents, including the chargesheet filed against Jagabandhu Panda, one of the former directors of the group. The chargesheet also mentioned that a huge amount of money had been transferred to the account of both Patnaik and Jagabandhu Panda.
A CBI official said the chargesheet had been kept open as the investigation into the scam was yet to be fully over. "We are still investigating to find out involvement of others, and if required, we would file another supplementary chargesheet," said a CBI official.
In another related development, the central agency today conducted raids at nine locations in Bengal and one location in Odisha in connection with the money laundering scam by one Royal International Shares, a Calcutta-based money deposit collection company.
The investigating agency conducted raid on the residence of Sudhir Behera, a former director of the company at Choudwar in Cuttack district. Sources said the CBI seized some documents and bank accounts while Behera was not present in his residence during the raid.
Sources in the CBI said the company was also operating at few places in the state and it had allegedly duped investors worth Rs 1 crore in the state.
