Cuttack, Oct. 9: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated a second police station at CDA today evening.
He also laid the foundation stone for construction of an office of the deputy commissioner of police at Cantonment today.
With the establishment of the new police station at CDA Phase-II, the number of police stations in Cuttack city has now reached 21.
The new police station has been established at a cost of Rs 90 lakh.
“We believe that with the establishment of this police station, the soaring crime graph of our area would be checked,” said Akash Mohapatra, a retired government employee.
The new police station at CDA will cover areas including sectors 10,11, 12, 13, 14 and 15. Besides, National Law University, Brajabiharipur, Naraj barrage and Dhabaleswar slum will also come under the jurisdiction of the CDA Phase –II police station.
The CDA Phase-II police station has been established to check increasing crime at various sectors of the satellite township developed by the Cuttack Development Authority.
The population of CDA Phase-II is now over 30,000, while the population at the existing police station at Markatnagar is 80,000.
The Markat Nagar police station will now have its jurisdiction at CDA sectors 1, 7, 8, and 9. About 170 cases are registered here every year.
Besides, the police station will also have an outpost and one aid-post at Naraj. The move is aimed at checking the rising incidents of burglary, snatching and other crimes at CDA. “The new police station is equiped with modern facilities and will provide better services to the people of CDA,” said police commissioner R.P. Sharma.
