Railway drive
Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway is conducting large scale ticket checking drives on a regular basis to make passengers aware about not travelling without tickets or with irregular tickets. It is also attempting to discourage unauthorised visitors on the station premises with this drive.
JE training
Balasore: The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme authorities on Wednesday began training of nodal officers of four districts - Malkangiri, Koraput, Keoonjhar and Jajpur - to carry out immunisation programme to tackle the Japanese encephalitis outbreak. Another child in Koraput district died on Wednesday morning, taking the toll in the district to 12.
Woman dies
Kendrapara: Damayanti Behera of Koranda village died in Kendrapara after the ambulance, which was called to take her to the hospital, did not turn up on time. Behera had complained of chest pain early on Wednesday.
Bird flu alert
Bhubaneswar: The health department has sounded a high alert in the state and has asked all chief district medical officers (CDMOs) to take precautionary measures against bird flu. Health secretary Arti Ahuja, in a letter to all CDMOs, said the H5N8 virus had been detected at National Zoological Park, Delhi and Gandhi Zoological Park in Gwalior.
Flyover
Bhubaneswar: The tender for construction of a flyover at the Khandagiri and Gohira Chhak areas here will be finalised this month, chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi said. He said the National Highways Authority of India has been asked to take appropriate steps in this regard.
Waste disposal
Bhubaneswar: The civic body has decided to set up a facility for safe disposal of construction and demolition waste and plans to rope in a private partner to execute the project. The corporation has also earmarked two sites, where the waste will be dumped.
Train services
Bhubaneswar: Train services to Talcher will be temporarily diverted because of safety-related work in connection with non-interlocking for commissioning of third line between Talcher and South Bolanda from November 8 to 13.
