Bhubaneswar, Feb. 27: A city court today rejected the bail plea of two youths accused of hurling a crude bomb at a beer parlour near Indradhanu market in Nayapalli police limits last night. Both the accused have been sent to Jharapada jail. An employee of the parlour suffered serious injuries in the attack.
The accused, identified as Sakti Prasad Satapathy, 26, and Abdul Shahrukh Khan, 24, were nabbed from a nearby slum within two hours of the incident. Police said the duo had hurled the bomb after a heated argument with the employee of the beer parlour for being refused free drinks.
"Both of them used to visit the parlour frequently and often demand beer without paying any money. Last evening, they had an argument with one of the employees, Dhaneswar Sahu, who refused to oblige and demanded money," said inspector in-charge of Nayapalli police station, Suryamani Pradhan.
The youths left the bar in a huff and came back later on a motorcycle. They hurled the crude bomb at Sahu when he was shutting down the bar.
"I was locking the parlour when I was hit by the bomb. The accused escaped from the spot. Hearing the explosion, other shopkeepers reached the spot and informed the police," said Sahu, who suffered injuries to the shoulder and was rushed to a nearby private hospital.
Further investigation by the police revealed the accused duo have created disturbances at the beer parlour several times in the recent past. "They used to threaten the employees," said a police official.
In June 2014, a 22-year-old salesman of a liquor shop at Aiginia was shot dead by three goons while the employee was closing the liquor shop.
The incident took place when three accused persons asked for liquor from the salesman Rakesh Sahu.
One of the goons offered a Rs 1,000 note but Rakesh demanded the exact amount of Rs 145 and the duo had a heated argument.
Later, one of the accused asked Rakesh to come near the vehicle and take the money. When Rakesh reached the vehicle, another accused opened fire on him. The cops have so far arrested two youths, including an engineering student, for the murder.
