Bhubaneswar, Sept. 7: The BJP on the concluding day of its three-day training programme decided to disallow the BJD government led by Naveen Patnaik to hijack central government schemes. The saffron party also initiated steps to ensure that all central schemes directly reach the beneficiaries.

The three-day training programme of the party was organised following the BJP president Amit Shah’s clarion call to the party workers to take steps to strengthen the party in the eastern region.

After becoming the party president, Shah had said it was the responsibility of the party workers to strengthen the party from the grassroots level. A major concern for the BJP is the fact that despite a Modi wave sweeping across large swathes of the country, it had managed to win only one out of the 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha and 10 of the 147 assembly seats.

The rise in vote share has given BJP newfound hope that it has the wherewithal to woo voters in the state if corrective measures are taken.

On the concluding day, BJP’s national general secretary (organisation) Ram Lalji gave tips to party cadres on improving the performance of the party. BJP loyalists informed the central leadership that the party would only emerge a winner if it is able to expose the Naveen Patnaik government for what it was.

The BJP was BJD’s alliance partner for nine years before the coalition collapsed in 2009. BJP spokesperson Suresh Pujari said: “ We have noticed that the BJD government is hijacking all the central government sponsored programmes and taking credit for it. We will soon come out with a strategy to create awareness among people about various central government sponsored programmes.”

The BJP in its three-day programme came to realise that the party had lost the election as they chose wrong candidates. State party president KV Singh Deo said, “We will launch membership drive from November to enlarge our base. One cannot launch a fight if the organization is weak.”

The party also decided to target Naveen Patnaik government on various corruption issues including the mining scam, money deposit collection scam, land allotment scam and other issues.
