Bhubaneswar, Jan. 17: The BJB Autonomous College is all set to wear a spruced up look this academic season.

The college will soon come up with an indoor sports complex and include facilities for badminton and table tennis. Moreover, there would be a multi-gym and a canteen as per the demands and requirements of the students, said principal Dushmanta Sahoo. A master plan was under way, he said.

The complex will be built between two hostels — the SC/ ST Hostel and the general hostel — on an area of 170sqft. Process was on for the procurement of new sports equipment worth Rs 1 lakh with the help of special University Grants Commission (UGC) funds, the principal said.

Similarly, the basketball field on the college campus is going to be renovated jointly by the BJB alumni association and the college. A new boundary wall has already been erected to protect the ground. As part of its campus beautification drive, open spaces with wild shrubs in front of the college have been cleared and two gardens have been developed into green lawns and flowerbeds. “The gardens are being revived and beautified after 17 years and an attempt is being made to install a flora fountain,” said the principal.

The college will soon get its third garden and a parking area in front of the ladies’ hostel. The work would be taken up in a PPP mode and carried out by the Falcon construction company, he said.

The construction of a boundary wall for a cycle stand in the administrative block, pending for long, will also be taken up shortly.
