Sambalpur, Aug. 7: A BSF jawan was arrested by the Government Railway Police here today for assaulting a disabled passenger on board the Bokaro-Allepy Express.
The jawan, Jayaprakash Dubey, was going to Laxmipur occupying a seat meant for disabled persons. He attacked the disabled person, Ujjwal Dash of Loisingha in Balangir district, when the latter asked him to vacate the seat.
A severely injured Dash informed the ticket examiner aboard about the incident. Subsequently, the GRP arrested the jawan when the train reached Sambalpur.
In another incident, the GRP arrested four others for allegedly beating up a Railway Police Force (RPF) constable in Hatia-Puri Tapaswini Express.
The four inebriated passengers thrashed RPF constable Pabitra Rout as he tried to prevent them from drinking liquor inside an air-conditioned bogey of the train.
“I boarded the train at Jharsuguda as I was assigned duty from there up to Angul. While on duty, I found four persons were drinking liquor and creating nuisance inside an air-conditioned coach. They beat me up as I asked them to refrain from drinking and shouting in the train. Later, the ticket examiners and other RPF personnel, who were in the train, came to my rescue from those inebriated passengers. The GRP nabbed the four in Sambalpur,” said Rout.
“The four persons, who had attacked Rout, have been arrested. They have been identified as Mihir Naik, Sumeet Kumar Dey, Ashis Sahu and Prashanta Ojha.
BSF jawan Dubey, who assaulted a disabled passenger in the Bokaro-Allepy Express, has also been arrested,” said assistant sub-inspector of Sambalpur GRP station Lambodara Pradhan.
