Jorhat, March 6: He has the release of Bengali film Ardhangini, in which he has acted alongside Slumdog Millionaire’s Javed, Mahesh Manjrekar, and actress Rati Agnihotri, to look forward to.

And now, Angsuman Parasar is eyeing the Assamese film industry.

Having worked in Tollywood since 2008, the 25-year-old actor from Jorhat has eight releases under his belt, including the runaway hit Ek Palake Ektu Dekha and is waiting for the back-to-back releases of six more, in all of which he has played the lead role.

Parasar told The Telegraph over phone from Calcutta that after Ardhangini he felt he had created a niche for himself in Tollywood and was now exploring new avenues — both in Bollywood and back home in Assam.

“I would like to work in an Assamese film as that is the place where I belong. Most Bengali films have good scripts, many of them serious, and I would like to work in an Assamese movie that has a script just as good,” he said.

On Ardhangini, directed by Abhishek Mukherjee, where he has acted opposite Meghna Haldar, Angsuman says that it is the love story of a boy who first heard the word Ardhangini when he was four years old and did not understand its meaning.

He goes through childhood and adolescence till he hits upon the meaning at 24 years when the story ends. Here Rati and Mahesh Manjrekar have played the parents of the heroine.

Angsuman began his career in Tollywood playing second lead next to Prasenjit Chatterjee in the Raj Mukherjee directed Mr Funtoosh released in 2008.

The same year, Raj Mukherjee directed him opposite Varsha Priyadarshini in Love Story.

These were followed by Apan Shatru directed by Sushanta Saha and a double-hero project, along with Bibhas Chakraborty, in 2009.

The same year he played the hero opposite Kasturi in Ek Palake Ektu Dekha directed by Supriyo Sinha.

In 2010, Bhul Bhal directed by Sushanta Saha was released and Love, Love, Love directed by Raj Mukherjee in 2011.

In 2012, Baaz directed by Bahadur Chakrabarty was released along with Ektu Sukher Ashay, an off-beat movie without a heroine.

In the offing are S.P. Chakravarty’s I Love Tomake and Aajker Unish Kuri, Jayanta Upadhyay’s Revenge, Supriyo Sinha’s Ranabhumi and Priyo tumi kaar? Prabin Nandi’s Shei to Amar Kache Ele, besides Ardhangini.

“At present I am shooting for another Bengali film, Bhalobhasar Rupkatha, directed by Soumen Mondal,” he said.

Angsuman would also like to work in a role that has shades of grey and his dream role is what Shah Rukh Khan’s performance in Darr.

He began his career as a model in 2004 after his father Paran Sharma and mother Jina shifted to Calcutta because of his father’s work.
