Imphal, Aug. 13: Super Sporting Club, Sekta beat Yairipok DOAK by 3-2 goals in the M. Ibobi Singh Memorial 1st Division Football League Tournament at Khuman Lampak main stadium today.
Super Sporting Club were unstoppable in the early part of the match with S. Basanta slamming home the leading goal in the 14th minute.
Teammate W. Bisheshor consolidated with a field goal in the 22nd minute.
S. Basanta increased the lead in the 31st minute to give the SSC team a 3-0 goal lead in the first half.
However, Yairipok DOAK stepped up their efforts in the later stages of the game.
Y. Bobo Singh got the morale booster opening goal in the 58th minute but the team was left high and dry till the regulated hour. The second goal for Yairipok came in injury time with M.R. Shankar netting home. However, it was too late for the team.
SSC Sekta player S. Basanta and Yairipok DOAK player P. Anand, L. Bishorjit and Ksh. Bijen were awarded yellow cards in the match.
UPSA Pukhao drubbed Star Sporting Club, Porompat by 4-0 goals in the second match. Laishom A.K., H. Premkanta, S. Bunao and Rk. Arjun fetched a goal each for the Pukhao team’s victory.
Imphal West First Division: HNSC Haoreibi defeated Yaiskul Athletic Club by 5-1 goals in the 20th L. Sangita Devi Memorial First Division Football League 2013 at SKYC ground, Sekmai, today.
Y. Apik struck three goals while T. Shyamson scored one.
Yaiskul player M. Surchan conceded an own goal to give Haoreibi a 5-0 lead.
The face-saving goal for Yaiskul Athletic Club came from M. Romio.
In another match, YWC Malom beat GC-CRPF Langjing by 3-2 goals.
N. Hemchandra scored two goals while A. Bipin fetched one goal for YWC Malom. P. Singsit and K.G. Kom struck a goal each for the CRPF team.
Buchi Babu cricket: Assam will meet Tamil Nadu Cricket Association President XI in their campaign opener of the Buchi Babu invitation cricket tournament at Chennai on Thursday.
In the other two league matches of the group, Assam will clash with Baroda and Kerala on August 18 and 21 respectively.
