Dhemaji: A 20ft statue of Golgi Bote Talom Rukbo, founder of Donyi-Polo, a revivalist religious movement of Arunachal Pradesh, will be unveiled at Pasighat in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on October 2.
This was revealed by construction committee adviser Kaling Borang on Saturday.
Donyi-Polo is an indigenous faith and culture, having followers not only in Arunachal Pradesh but also in parts of northern Assam, bordering the frontier state.
Unveiling of the statue at Central Donyi-Polo Yelam Kebang, Pasighat compound, will be a centre of attraction for believers of indigenous faith and culture not only in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam but also across the globe, the committee said.
Dolong Padung, chairman of the statue construction committee and a renowned singer who has won Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar and was recently given a gold medal by the government of Arunachal Pradesh, said the statue was being built without government assistance and with donations and contributions by believers in Arunachal and Assam.
"This 20ft statue of the indigenous faith's leader is the tallest one in the state and in the entire Northeast which will become a centre of attraction for all believers of indigenous faith across the world," he said.
