SUPER DIVISION
Guwahati, Sept. 1: NF Railway SC humiliated Food Corporation of India (FCI) SC 5-1 in the RG Baruah Trophy Guwahati Sports Association super division football league that resumed after a one-day suspension because of rain at Nehru Stadium here today.
In the one-sided encounter on a slippery turf, the FCI men could hardly gain a foothold to defend their castle. The railmen pumped in as many as four goals in the first half and netted another in the second half before FCI found the only salvo through Kapil Kr Ray in the 89th minute.
Chayaram Basumatary opened the account for NF Railway off a pass from Sankar Sil in the 17th minute, who enhanced the lead, deflecting in a pass from Chayaram in the 25th minute. Five minutes later, a through pass by Sankar Sil from the midfield found striker Jelendra Brahma inside the box, who made no mistake in pushing the ball into the net for the third goal.
The nimble-footed Sil dribbled past the fragile FCI defence in the 42nd minute to take the shot from inside the box, which FCI keeper Gautam Injal managed to fist upward and it rebounded off the crosspiece to land at the feet of Jelendra Brahma to be nudged home for the fourth goal.
They could have made it 5-0 in the 56th minute off a free-kick from just outside the box along the right flank by Sibra Narzary, which keeper Injal dived full length to fist away brilliantly.
The fifth goal, however, came two minutes later through Sil off a pass from Sibra.
A division league: In the Jibeswar Goswami first division league on the second turf of Nehru Stadium, City Police today rode a second-minute goal by Daipayan Rabha to edge past Maharana AC.
