Agartala: The Tripura government on Tuesday opened a park named after Param Vir Chakra recipient lance naik Albert Ekka, who died in the 1971 Indo-Pak war on the Tripura frontier.

The park, spread over twoacres, will focus on the life of Ekka and indigenous culture of Tripura.

In his address at the inaugural session, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb said the people of Tripura do not know much about Ekka's sacrifice.

He said patriotism is a must for the development of any country and that his government would work to make Tripura the country's best state in the next five years.

He said more statues of Ekka's colleagues, who laid down their lives, would be put up in the park along the lines of 11 murti in New Delhi.

"People coming from outside the state will see their statues and know about their sacrifice. The details will be written in English, Bengali and Kokborok," Deb said.
