Opposition chargesheet against Assam government, Centre

The United Opposition Forum in Assam on Wednesday released a 50-page “chargesheet” against the BJP-led regime at the Centre and in the state.

AICC general secretary in-charge of Assam Jitendra Singh released the “chargesheet” in the presence of other Opposition leaders at a resort here, levelling over 60 charges against the government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma in the state and Narendra Modi government at the Centre.

The charges ranged from corruption, misrule, favouritism, rising inflation and imposition of rampant toll gates, failure to check elephant-human conflict, implement the 1985 Assam Accord, according ST status to six communities, increase the wage of tea workers, land grab, crime against women. The other charges included misuse of government funds on hiring choppers for unofficial trips and no progress in the APSC scam probe, among others.

The Opposition Forum chargesheet has targetted Sarma who is yet to respond to the allegation.

The Congress has been levelling charges of corruption and misrule against the BJP-led state government and it intensified during Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

Five of the 16-party Opposition Forum were not represented during the release of the chargesheet at a resort here.
