Shillong: The Meghalaya election department published the final electoral rolls for Assembly polls, tentatively scheduled for next month, on Wednesday.
Meghalaya has 18,30,104 voters - 9,23,848 females and 9,06,256 males. Of these, 42,843 are voters between ages 18 and 19. The list has no voter categorised as "third gender". Altogether 8,276 names have been deleted from the electoral roll. These are people who have died or shifted outside the state.
During the recent enrolment drive, Mawshynrut constituency saw the maximum registration of 2,123 voters while West Shillong seat registered the least with 316 voters.
The Election Commission is expected to announce the election date any time now. The term of the ninth Meghalaya Assembly will end on March 6. In the last five years, the state has seen an increase of 3,27,595 (21.8 per cent) voters. Mawlai seat registered the highest increase (42,780 voters) while Dalu recorded the lowest (18,359 voters). The state has 3,082 polling stations this year, an increase of 597 booths (24.02 per cent) from 2,485 in 2013.
Meghalaya has been shortlisted by the Election Commission for National Awards 2017 for creatively engaging youth, proactive mobilisation of young voters under the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation initiative and for its special enrolment drive, Mission Unite - You 'N' I towards Enrollment.The state election department has also entered Limca Book of Records for the formation of the biggest human logo comprising young voters in the state. Altogether 2,870 newly enrolled voters from 113 schools and three colleges had formed a human logo of the special enrolment drive here.
