Guwahati, Nov. 4: Mangalchandi School fought hard for a one-wicket victory over South Point School (Green) in a league match of the 2nd Iva Bhattacharyya inter-school (under-13) cricket tournament, organised by River Rine Cricket Coaching Centre at Latasil Ground.
Electing to bat first, the South Point boys posted 116 runs for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Chasing the target, the Mangalchandi boys reached 117 for nine in 17.4 overs.
Sahil Jain topscored for South Point with a steady 35 off 53 balls. His knock included three boundaries.
Rahul Dhar, whose 23 runs came with four hits to the boundary, was the other main contributor to the side. As many as 37 runs came as extras because of wayward bowling and sloppy fielding by the Mangalchandi boys.
Hare Krishna Rao and Binod Kumar of Mangalchandi had a wicket each.
Munna Shah anchored the Mangalchandi innings with an unbeaten 48 off 43 balls, slamming six boundaries during the course of the innings. He was adjudged Man of the Match. Deepak Thakur chipped in with 11 runs.
Bishnu Dev Boro nearly took South Point to victory with a haul of four for 19, while Tonmoy Lahkar had two for 22.
In the other match of the day, South Point (Red) was awarded a walkover against Gurukul Grammar School, whose team did not turn up for the match.
