SENTINELS FOOTBALL

Shillong, March 8: Lawsohtun SC and Eastern Ri-Bhoi FC clawed their way into the semi-finals of the Sentinels Football Tournament, organised by Assam Rifles with support of the Meghalaya Football Association, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here today.

Lawsohtun SC held on to a slender lead for a 2-1 victory over Pohkseh SC in the morning match, while Eastern Ri-Bhoi beat Nongrim Hills SC 2-0 with a goal in each half in the second quarter-final.

Kitbok Pale, Lawsohtun's most dangerous player up front, put his side into the lead in the 13th minute and scored the second goal before the half time whistle.

Pohkseh, also known as Eastern Pirates, managed to pull one back via a penalty but it wasn't enough.

In the afternoon, Victor Shadap found the net with a long distance smash into the top left corner that goalie Geremy Passah could do nothing about.

Shadap returned in the second half to make it a little safer for Eastern Ri-Bhoi, doubling the score in the 60th minute. But Nongrim kept up the pressure until the final whistle.

Lawsohtun and Eastern Ri-Bhoi will now meet in the second semi-final on March 10, following the first last-four fixture between Madanriting SC and Smit SC the same day.
