Guwahati: BJP national spokesperson Nalin S. Kohli said Congress president Rahul Gandhi's tweets celebrate "negative and factually incorrect" news.
Kohli was here to address a workshop for members of the media cell of the Assam BJP at the party's state headquarters at Hengerabari.
"Even if completely one-sided and factually incorrect reports are published anywhere in the world, Mr Gandhi and his colleagues jump on it to immediately paint it as the picture of India," Kohli told reporters here on Sunday.
"Today, they are trying to create an imaginary politics of hatred, but the country will not be fooled. Indian citizens and voters are smarter than this," Kohli said.
He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi treats all Indians as equal and his agenda has always been " sabka saath, sabka vikas (support for all, development of all)".
Kohli on Sunday accused the Congress of running down Modi's politics of performance. "The Congress is indulging in politics of non-performance and running down the politics of performance. Let them compete on politics of development," he said.
On the "grand alliance" being proposed by the Opposition parties to oust the BJP from power in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kohli said: "Only opposing the Prime Minister cannot be an alternative."
He called the proposed alliance of Opposition party "imaginary" as "it is still not clear who will lead it".
"Let it be formed first. The grand alliance is imaginary. Who is going to lead it? What will be its ideology? Who will be part of it? and who will be left out is still not clear," Kohli said.
"There are different reports coming out in the media with some saying the Congress will lead, some says Congress will be a part of it but not lead it while others say Congress will not be a part of it," he said.#
