Guwahati, Dec. 3: Don Bosco School clinched top honours by defeating Modern English School by six wickets in the final of the 1st Sitaram Agarwala Memorial Inter-school Cricket Tournament at Judges Field last evening.

The day-and-night encounter became a one-sided affair after Aman Bothra ripped through the Modern batting line-up, taking five wickets and conceding just 13 runs in five overs. Put to bat, the Modern batsmen appeared clueless about Aman’s devastating spell and were bundled out for a paltry 91 in 19.5 overs. Abhijit Sonowal was the highest contributor with 17 runs while Subham Tarafdar scored 11. For Don Bosco, Gaurav Pathak and Rishabh Chaliha also took a wicket each.

Don Bosco were shaken by the loss of four quick wickets early on.

However, Wachir Ahmed and Shiwang Das stabilised the innings with an unbroken 55-run partnership. Don Bosco cruised to their target in 32.1 overs.

For Modern, Jitendra Deuri and Chitrajyoti Bora bowled economical spells and took a wicket each.

Aman Bothra was adjudged the Man of the Match for his superb bowling performance.

Apart from the winner’s trophy and certificates, Don Bosco were awarded cash prize of Rs 10,000 while Modern bagged a cash award of Rs 6,000 along with runners-up trophy and certificates.

Debasish Saikia of Modern English School was adjudged the Man of the Tournament as well as the Best Fielder.

Subham Mandal of Modern was adjudged the Best Batsman.

Shiwang Das of Don Bosco was declared the Best Fielder while Rio Pramanik of Delhi Public School was named Best Wicketkeeper.
