Guwahati, Aug. 16: Mofidul Islam's hattrick helped Assam Police Blues tame Sports Authority of India (SAI) SC 5-0 in a match of the Jibeswar Goswami Guwahati First Division Football League at Nehru Stadium here today.
SAI faced an early brace of attacks from the policeman and in the 23rd minute, the former conceded an own goal. Mofidul Islam received a cross from Joseph Maslai and shot from inside the box. The ball found the back of the net, touching the foot of a defender.
Three minutes later, Mofidul received a calculated pass from the left flank from Maslai, which he wasted no time in sending home.
In the 39th minute, Mofidul received another calculated pass, this time from N. Bikash Singh from the right flank, which he shot in the net with a powerful right footer.
While the policemen were leading 3-0, SAI conceded another own goal, taking the former's lead to 4-0.
Sanjoy Rabha received a cross from skipper Lohit Taye which defender Pulok Baruah tried to intercept, only to help the ball go into the left corner of the net.
In the 52nd minute, Prakash Gogoi fouled Maslai at the edge of the police's box. The latter were awarded a freekick. Taye curled the ball into the net.
In the 65th minute, SAI got their only attempt when Prakash's powerful right-footer found the crosspiece.
