Guwahati, June 4: Aman Deo of Assam caused a major upset on the first day of the 2nd AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament today at the Chachal tennis complex here.

Aman shocked sixth seed Mahesh Mahapatra of Odisha 7-5, 6-2 in a boys’ under-14 first round match. In another upset in the same age group, unseeded Siddharth Choudhury of Assam got the better of seventh seed Assam lad Raunak Bora 6-2, 6-4.Top seed Parikshit Somani of Assam outplayed Neeraj Barooah 6-0, 6-0 to enter the pre-quarterfinals.

The boys’ U-18 also witnessed an upset, as qualifier Rohin Gajree shocked eighth seed Sunit S. Somvansi 6-0, 6-1 in a first round encounter. It was, however, a smooth sail for seeds in the girls’ u-14 singles.
