British director Steve McQueen will open his first major feature since 12 Years a Slave won an Oscar in 2013 when the thriller Widows kicks off the BFI London Film Festival in October. The film stars Academy Award winner Viola Davis, Fast and Furious actress Michelle Rodriguez and The Night Manager’s Elizabeth Debicki among other big names. The festival website describes the movie, set in Chicago, as a “complex thriller about a group of women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities”.

Rita Bhaduri passes away

Veteran actress Rita Bhaduri, best known for her roles in films like Julie, Hero No. 1 and Beta, has died. She was 62. Bhaduri passed away on Tuesday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest at Sujoy Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai. She was in the hospital for the past two weeks.
