Don Bosco Park Circus alumni Ananya Bubna and Udayan Bubna launched www.misschase.com, the latest women’s fashion store on the Internet, on the night of June 11. “Only a week into going live, we’ve had over tens of thousands of hits on our website and over 7,000 Facebook fans,” say the brothers behind the home-grown site that brings fresh UK fashion to India. A t2 chat with Ananya.

When and how did Miss Chase take off?

Miss Chase has been in the making for about a year now. After exiting our previous venture www.groupon.in successfully, we started looking out for the next big opportunity. We spoke to a lot of people in various industries and noticed there was a strong interest in fashion. Highly sought-after European fashion is not only extremely expensive but also difficult to access owing to a limited number of stores from leading brands. That’s when Miss Chase was born — working on filling both these gaps by bringing affordable, high-quality UK fashion for females in the 13-38 age group across the country.

Why call your fashion shopping site Miss Chase?

Miss Chase is exactly how I would want my girlfriend to be dressed. We see us revolutionising the way women dress in this country. Miss Chase is the coolest girl in the room. She is fashionable, she is chic, she is trendy and very confident!

How do you ensure the site is different from the existing online fashion shops?

That’s easy! Unlike all online fashion shops in India, we don’t want to be a brand that is ‘everything to everybody’. Our fashion is extremely curated and goes a long way in helping our customers make a strong personal statement. No other fashion website is selling high-quality, affordable UK fashion in India at this moment.

Also, being a women’s-only brand, we stand against any violence towards women. To show our care and support, we have tied up with Sanlaap, a feminist NGO that tries to stop violence against women. Miss Chase shoppers can choose to make a voluntary donation during checkout.

What category is doing the best so far at misschase.com? And how often do you add new stock?

The top-selling products so far have been the peplum tops, palazzo pants and boyfriend shirts [think Natalie Portman in No Strings Attached]. We have a very strong design team spread across Calcutta, London and New York that is in sync with the latest global fashion trends. What’s even better is we add new stuff every week so you don’t have to wait for a few months before laying your hands on the new trends. Our stuff is made in the same factories as some of the best-selling international brands.

What’s the future of online shopping in India?

The online market for women’s footwear, apparel and accessories is estimated at $415 million dollar with a 100 per cent year-on-year growth. We’ve observed that a majority of the shoppers are making multiple purchases on their first visit to misschase.com, a purchase pattern that is not very common for online purchases.
