Austin Butler, an important member of Tom Hardy’s shady midwestern 1960s’ motorcycle gang, is forced to make a choice between his loyalty to the gang and his righteous wife, played by Jodie Comer, in the trailer of the upcoming American drama film The Bikeriders.

Unveiled by 20th Century Studios on Wednesday, the two-minute-two-second-long trailer follows the fictional motorcycle club through the lives of its members in 1965’s Chicago. Kathy (Comer), a strong-willed woman married to the wild and reckless biker Benny (Butler), recounts how the motorcycle club Vandals’ Evolution impacted their life in the past decade.

Founded by Johnny (Hardy), the motorcycle gang begins as a local group of outsiders united by their love for bikes and respect for their leader. However, the club gradually gets involved in criminal activities — drugs, gambling, prostitution and extortion. “The club got real big real fast,” Kathy says in a voiceover juxtaposed by images of criminal activities and violence committed by the gang.

We see a special comradery between Benny and Johnny, where the latter wants to groom the former as the next leader of the gang. Johnny orders to burn a pub where Benny gets beaten up. However, in the wake of the increasing risk of death in the trade, Kathy tries to pull her husband out of the gang, sparking conflicts.

“Let’s ride. Watch the brand-new trailer for The Bikeriders, starring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, and Tom Hardy only in theaters December 1,” wrote the official X (previously Twitter) handle of the studio, sharing the trailer.

Helmed by Loving, Midnight Special and Mud director Jeff Nichols, The Bikeriders also stars Michael Shannon, Mike Faist and Norman Reedus. The film is inspired by the 1968 photo book of the same name by American photographer Danny Lyon.

The Bikeriders will arrive in cinemas on December 1.
