Sylvia Villagran selected as announcer for the 95th Academy Awards ceremony

The two-time Voice Arts Award winner was also the announcer for the 28th Critics’ Choice Awards this year

Sylvia Villagran will be the first Latin American to become the voice of Oscars at the 95th Academy Awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in California on March 13 (IST).

The voice artiste took to Twitter yesterday to thank the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for selecting her as the announcer at the live event. “Thank u so much @TheAcademy for inviting me to be your voice for the evening. It is a thrill and an honor to be the first Latina announcer for the Oscars. I am deeply grateful and humbled by the opportunity to #represent #RepresentationMatters #latina #mexicana,” she wrote.

The voiceover artist is a two-time Voice Arts Award winner and has been the voice behind several prestigious award shows. Most recently, Sylvia was the announcer for the 28th Critics’ Choice Awards where she had a fangirl moment after spotting Amanda Seyfried walking up the stage.

Sylvia also served as the announcer for the 20th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards (2015), 2014 Writers’ Guild Awards (2014), and the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards (2014). She has a few films to her name, including The Real Ghostbusters, Slimer! And the Real Ghostbusters and Maxie’s World, where she served as the recording assistant.
