I had just reached home on Saturday (January 25) when I got a call from a very excited bunch of friends at Nocturne saying that Sushant Singh Rajput had dropped in to party!

It was 11.45pm and Howrah to Shakespeare Sarani was a long drive back. But the fangirl in me was determined to play detective on Byomkesh himself! Camped in town for the shooting of Dibakar Banerjee’s Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, I had missed him at Bow Barracks and then on College Street. This time, I wouldn’t. So here are excerpts from my detective diary...

THE ENTRY: Dressed in a fitted black tee, denims, leather jacket and red shoes, Sushant walked in with a team of around 10 people after a “daylong shoot”. The first thing I noticed was his moustache, which he was sporting for his Bengali sleuth role. The group then occupied the cubicles just in front of the private enclosed section of the club.

THE B’DAY CAKE: The actor, who celebrated his birthday at Shisha on January 21, cut another birthday cake at 12.10am, this time at Nocturne. Later at night, the Shuddh Desi Romance hero tucked into Pesto Grilled Chicken, Pizza Al Romana (a thin-crust pizza with mozzarella, chicken salami, rosemary and bell pepper) and sipped on a large Absolut with a Lime Breezer. He stayed away from hookah but kept his Marlboros close. Who said actors eat little!

THE CRAZE: A packed Nocturne had gone crazy by midnight after spotting their Ishaan from Kai Po Che!. The GOGs (gang of girls, silly!) parked themselves in front of the area where he was standing, requesting for a picture. Sushant was a little reluctant to pose for solo pictures but every now and then obliged the girls.

THE STAR: Finally, the moment we were waiting for! Though a little wary at first, the moment Yo Yo Honey Singh started playing, the Punjabi got into action. He couldn’t get enough of Sunny sunny from Yaariyan and he requested for the recent party track, not once — but thrice! YoYo’s Upar upar in the air was his second favourite. But the loudest cheer from the crowd came when Gulabi and Tere mere beech mein from his last release Shuddh Desi Romance were played. A wicked grin on his face, twinkle in his eyes and letting loose a whistle podu, he had us all going #whoa!

P.S. He also jived to Ranbir Kapoor’s Dilliwali girlfriend from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. But I think I saw his expression go from happy to frown when Tune maari entriyaan began playing. The DJ replaced the song in a jiffy! Now, what does that say about Ranveer Singh and Sushant?!

SIGH, GOODBYE: Sadly, the lights came on at deadline time but the charmer made sure he brought the smiles back by posing for a last round of pictures with fans before leaving the nightclub at 2.05am.
