Unplugged @ 1658

If the mummy at Indian Museum is kickin’ around, it’s because things are livening up at three-month-old 1658 Bar + Kitchen next door. The restaurant at 26 Chowringhee Place has launched ‘Unplugged’ evenings — the first of which saw Nondon Bagchi taking the mic (instead of the drums!) to belt out his old favourite Song of the Shrimp from Elvis Presley-starrer Girls! Girls! Girls! among many more on Thursday. Guests tucked into some of the house specials like Pork Chops, Calcutta Bekti and Spicy Veggie Spaghetti AOP, while sommelier Keith W. Edgar kept the wine flowing.

“The reason we’ve put everything into this space is because we really love Calcutta and we want to give it something special from our hearts. And we can never do that without music! Having said unplugged, we’re going to get other people to plug in through gigs, Sunday brunches, Retro Fridays with DJs... anything that lends itself to music,” said host Ajay Rawla. Throw in happy hours (1:1) every day from 12.30pm to 3pm, and 6.30pm to 9pm, and the notes will take a new high!
