Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep has joined the Season 3 cast of Selena Gomez-led mystery comedy-drama series Only Murders in the Building.

Gomez made the announcement in a video she shared on Instagram. “I could cry 😭 season 3 is coming,” the singer-actress wrote.

In the video, Gomez is seen with her Season 1 and 2 series co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short, and then she introduces Paul Rudd, who was earlier announced as a cast member for Season 3. Then, she shows a glance of Streep. However, it is not yet known whether Streep will appear as a guest or a regular character in the Emmy-winning show.

Created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, the series follows Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), neighbours at an Upper West Side building called the Arconia.

The three unlikely friends bond over their love of true crime podcasts and end up starting their own as mysterious murders happen in the building.

Streep is a recipient of three Emmy awards and has acted in Holocaust, Angels in America and Season 2 of HBO’s Big Little Lies.

Co-creator and actor Steve Martin shared a picture of the Only Murders in the Building Season 3 cast on Twitter and wrote, “The filming of Season 3 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ has begun! A cast to dream of.”

In the Season 2 finale of the show, Glenroy died on-stage while performing in a Broadway play opposite Charles which was directed by Oliver. Season 3 begins with Charles, Oliver and Mabel trying to figure out who killed the famous actor Ben Glenroy (played by Paul Rudd).

The first two seasons of Only Murders in the Building are currently streaming on Disney+Hotstar in India.
