If you thought Priyanka Chopra’s music video for her debut single In My City was the worst thing you had watched in a long time, you obviously have no idea what she has thrown up (pun intended) this time.

Before unleashing her second single Exotic on us last week, Priyanka — who likes to be called Pee Cee in her singing avatar — had done the mandatory pre-publicity routine: leaked Exotic on YouTube and then cried foul. Though not a fan of Priyanka’s vocal cords, I clicked on an FB/Twitter link passed to me. Four minutes and 30 seconds later, it turned out to be my biggest regret.

Exotic opens with Priyanka in a coral-pink swimsuit emerging Bo Derek-style from the sea. If singing was just about sensuality, then Piggy Chops would have had a university degree by now. She looks into the camera suggestively and flicks her wet hair back as the lens pans on her killer curves. ‘This can’t be too bad’, you think.

And then she opens her mouth... Cool me down/ I’m feeling so exotic/ I’m hotter than the tropics/ Mumbai, Cuba baby let’s go / La-love me all the way to Rio.... And your world comes crashing down.

Now you think, ‘How bad can it get?’ The answer is: worse. Pitbull, the man who took over Salt Lake stadium during the IPL 6 inauguration and is otherwise a fun bloke, comes on and starts rapping, trying hard to match Priyanka’s badly choreographed moves. His first two lines: I’m like Bon Jovi I’m wanted/ Dead or alive, and ya better get with it is enough to put you off (poor) Bon Jovi for good. All the while Priyanka pitches in with her Desi girl moves, going all desi with the lyrics: Tumko jo dekha maine/ Toh maine ye jaan liya hai Pardesi babu/ Iss desi dil ko maan liya hai. Er... is that for Pitbull?

The last three minutes are spent on Priyanka’s unending costume changes — lime-green bustier to gold silk pants to tiny black dress — and Pitbull looks like he’s wandered on to the wrong set. By then, you can’t take Priyanka, her song or even Pitbull anymore. Enough. 4:20.
