The New Year has come with a lot of happiness and hope for one of India’s leading radiologist, Dr Sonal Mahalwar as she was crowned Glammonn Mrs India 2022 at the recently held pageant in Goa. The event, which held its sixth edition this year, aims to promote body positivity amongst women and Sonal emerged victorious in the zero size category at the pageant.
Even though becoming a beauty pageant titleholder was a dream Sonal had since teenage, she first completed her medical studies and currently she works as a radiologist in Gurgaon.And with this win of hers, she aims to bring about a change in her medical field as well.
Sharing her vision, Sonal says, “After bagging the title of Mrs India, my goal is to spread awareness on self-examination skills for the early breast cancer detection. My second goal is to increase the awareness on the PAP smear examination after the age of 21, which is done to rule out the cervical cancer. Also, I want to create awareness for the HPV (HumanPapillomavirus) vaccine as it is important to prevent sexually transmitted diseases if taken at the right age. Other than that, my last goal will be to make the women of my country understand the importance of menstrual hygiene.”
But her plan of action isn’t restricted till there as Sonal wants to avail the resources at her disposal now with the title, to bring about an evolution in the field of radiology as well. “As far as my profession is concerned, I want to focus on the key areas of artificial intelligence by raising funds in developing tools for the cancer imaging and musculoskeletal imaging. I am also currently pursuing post-graduation in AI from IIIT Delhi, so I want to raise funds for multiple projects which will assist in the near future in developing tools for not missing the right diagnosis,” she informs.
Sonal is truly turning out to be an inspiration for women all around the country as she is a living example of how it is never too late to work towards your dreams and by achieving it, you can bring a difference to a lot of other lives as well. That is what Sonal aims to do with her title during her reign.
