First Look

It is Calcutta’s first hotel in a mall, the first hotel to open in New Town and the first five-star since Hyatt Regency opened in 2002. Swissotel Kolkata Neotia Vista is a joint project of real estate major Ambuja Realty and Swiss hospitality chain Swissotel Hotels & Resorts. Out of the 147 rooms, nine are suites complete with a jacuzzi on the terrace. Also, check out the abundance of art work (graphic and textiles) inspired by architect Kapil Bhalla and artist Krsna Mehta. “We hope that in time to come the hotel will also have an art gallery,” said Harsh Neotia, chairman, Ambuja Realty.

Price point: Starting at Rs 7,500 for Classic and up to Rs 14,000 for suites. Banquets Bern I, II and III and break-away rooms Basel, Geneva and Zurich are impressive.

On the sixth level, let wine-dine-unwind take over at 24-hour dining Cafe Swiss with 128 covers. Expect the bar and lounge Maaya and Indian speciality restaurant Durbari to be ready in a month. A sneak peek at the menu: “We are bringing a Swiss style of service to the city (and to India) and also a culinary experience which most people will enjoy… Swiss wine, hors d’oeuvres and cheese fondue,” said Meinhard Huck, president of Swissotel Hotels & Resorts.

A flight of stairs from the sixth level will take you to the Infinity Pool, the most exciting feature of Swissotel. The “knife-edge” look of the pool where the blue of the pool and the sky meet, makes you feel like you may just swim off the edge of the tall building! Add to that a view of the airport runway with aeroplanes on the horizon and Splash the rooftop lounge next door, with gazebos, a bar and alfresco dining.
