Every year, Hollywood churns out films that are bigger than previous years. Here’s some that need a mention before they hit theatres in 2018.
Mary Poppins Returns (December 18)

Saleh, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep
Synopsis: In 1935, during the Great Depression in the United Kingdom, the now grown-up Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children — Annabel, Georgie and John — are visited by their former nanny after a family tragedy that has left them numb.
The Incredibles 2 (June 15)

Director: Brad Bird
Cast: Holly Hunter, Craig T. Nelson, Sarah Vowell, Huck Milner, Samuel L. Jackson
Synopsis: The Incredibles 2 features the return of the Parrs family of “Supers” (humans with super abilities). It will focus on Helen Parr (Hunter), also known as Elastigirl, while her husband Bob (Nelson) remains at home to look after their children Violet (Vowell), Dash (Milner), and Jack-Jack. The family struggles to maintain normal lives as they remain unawares of Jack-Jack’s powers. They, along with Frozone (Jackson), will have to battle a new villain with a sinister plot. The sequel will take off from the end of the first film where the Parrs are about to face The Underminer (John Ratzenberger).
Red Sparrow (March 2)

Director: Francis Lawrence
Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton, Joely Richardson
Synopsis: Prima ballerina Dominika Egorova faces a bleak and uncertain future after she suffers a career-ending injury. She soon turns to Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people to use their minds and bodies as weapons. Egorova emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow after completing the sadistic training process. As she comes to terms with her new abilities, Dominika meets a CIA agent who tries to convince her that he is the only person she can trust.
Widows (November 16)
Director: Steve McQueen
Cast: Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki
Synopsis: Set in contemporary Chicago amid a time of turmoil, four women, with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities, take fate in their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (July 20)

Director: Ol Parker
Cast: Amanda Seyfried, Lily James, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard, Andy Garcia, Cher and Meryl Streep
Synopsis: In this sequel to Mamma Mia! Sophie learns about her mother’s past while pregnant.
Mission Impossible 6 (July 27)

Director: Christopher McQuarrie
Cast: Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Alec Baldwin and Sean Harris.
Synopsis: The series maintains loose continuity between films, so it’s difficult to tell where the franchise will go with the next entry.
Alita: Battle of Angel (July 20)
Director: Robert Rodrigues
Cast: Rosa Salazar, Jennifer Connelly, Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali
Synopsis: Set centuries into the future, the abandoned Alita (Salazar) is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido (Waltz), a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg to his clinic. When Alita awakens she has no memory of who she is or the world she is in.
Spider-Man: The Spider Verse (December 14)
Directors: Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman
Cast: Shameik Moore voices Morales, starring alongside Liev Schreiber, Mahershala Ali, and Brian Tyree Henry.
Synopsis: A 3D superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Miles Morales/Spider-Man. In the “classic Spider-Man mold”, Morales must juggle his high school life with his status as a superhero since the death of Peter Parker, the first Spider-Man.
