KAUSHIK GANGULY GEARS UP FOR HIS NEXT WITH A BUNCH OF NEWCOMERS KUSHALI NAG Published 08.09.10, 12:00 AM

After a serious issue-based film like Arekti Premer Galpo with filmmaker-turned-actor Rituparno Ghosh in the lead, director Kaushik Ganguly wanted a breather. That’s why he has decided to shoot Rang Milanti, a rom-com with a young cast comprising Tanaji (of Tin Can), Gourab Chakraborty (Sabyasachi Chakraborty’s son), Riddhima (who debuted in Satabdi Roy’s sci-fi film Friend) and newcomer Indrasish.

“It’s a very young, urban film about four boys in love with the same girl. I am yet to cast the fourth boy. Riddhima plays an ad agency employee who likes all the four boys. But who she chooses to marry in the end is what the film is about. I think the young generation will love the film. It’s got a very interesting subject and if executed well I, along with my audience, will be proud of the film!” said Kaushik, in between a script-reading session with his lead cast at his Garia residence on Sunday evening.

The young group apart, Kaushik has also cast Saswata Chatterjee, Churni Ganguly and director Riingo in important roles. “Churni, Saswata and I are the only old people in the film! They play actors and Riingo will have a special appearance,” he added.

Before zeroing in on the Gen Y cast, Kaushik had wanted to do Rang Milanti with Abir Chatterjee, Rudranil Ghosh, Ritwick Chakraborty and Payel.

“But then I decided not to because people know their school of acting. They would know what to expect from them. So I chose a fresh cast and often, I have noticed, films with newcomers work wonders. For example, Dadar Kirti,” he said.

Kaushik is also looking forward to the red carpet premiere of Arekti Premer Galpo at the iView film festival in New York.

“After completing Arekti Premer Galpo, which is about homosexuals, I started writing another script which too deals with a serious issue. It took me six months to write that. But once I was ready, I decided to hit the floors with Rang Milanti instead because I don’t want to get typecast as a serious director. It took me 10 days to write Rang Milanti, which is a follow-up of my last released film Jackpot. The other film can wait for the time being.”

Debojyoti Mishra, Neel Dutt, Chandrabindoo, Rocket Mondal and Bonnie Chakraborty will score music for the five songs in the film. Calcutta apart, a part of the film will be shot in Bolpur and Darjeeling.

Produced by Deepten Films, Rang Milanti goes on the floors on October 24.
