CASUAL: The first segment of the fashion show on Friday evening saw signature Ananda colours and prints come together to tell a beautiful style story. The catwalk was swathed in happy, bright shades — candy pink to canary yellow — as the models sashayed down in their sunglasses and dramatically draped saris. The theme was casual wear, so the selection of saris was easy-breezy. The mood was fun and flirty, and what sealed the deal was the cool styling. Sunnies to belts, skinny or broad, the accessories could take the sari from Sunday brunch to a girlie lunch. Itsy-bitsy cholis to smart raw silk kurtis, the saris were teamed with blouses of all shapes and styles. Layering was big too; some of the saris were worn with shrugs and some over jeans and a jacket.

t2 pick: The stunning opening sari — a neon pink silk with a supersized Ananda motif on the pallu . Statement saris are made of these.

Party: The next segment was dedicated to party wear. The models came back in evening silks, Kanjeevarams, chiffons and crepe de Chine. The colours got more dramatic, some beautiful metallic tones crept in. Traditional combos, like black + copper and white + gold took centre stage. The saris were glammed up with glittering headbands across the foreheads and skinny belts. And sexy smokey eyes.

Ananda started in 1974 with the mission to revive the handloom saris of Bengal and beyond.
It was the first sari boutique in the city, opening its shop far away from the traditional sari hubs, on Russel Street.
It was also the first to use traditional motifs with fashionable designs, making it the mark of the woman of taste.
Patrons of Ananda have included the likes of Indira Gandhi, Naseem Banu, Saira Banu, Nargis, Hema Malini, Rekha and Rakhee.
