Patna, May 9: Hope is all what 28-year-old Amit Kumar Gaurav is left with now after years of running from one hospital to another.

Nine years after he damaged his vital organs and was admitted in premier hospitals in the state and outside, the distraught youth who has been hospitalised in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi came down to the capital at the janata darbar and pleaded with chief minister Nitish Kumar to financially support his treatment.

Today at the janata darbar, Amit was seen with his urinary catheter in one hand and waiting for Nitish to come and interact with him. “I am virtually a living dead person. Please help me get my life back. Doctors in AIIMS are asking me to undergo a major surgery but I do not have any money for that. Please help me,” he told Nitish.

The CM assured of help and directed senior health officials to look into the matter and ensure that Amit gets all possible help from the state. Narrating his tale, Amit said that in March 2002, he had suffered a major road accident in which his urinary bladder and intestine got badly injured.

“I was first taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital. They detected that there was hole in my urinary bladder but could not locate it. I remained there for seven to eight years as I was critical and could not urinate or eat on my own. Later, they referred me to a Pune hospital. The doctors there detected the problem but asked me to deposit lakhs for the surgery,” Amit said.

“When I contacted the health department for financial help , I was told that the state government could pay only if I get treated in some hospitals in Delhi. I therefore went to AIIMS. I have been to darbar on an earlier occasion and was assured of help,” he added.

Amit said it has been six months that he made the visit to the darbar but no official word of communication has been received as yet.
