Patna, March 7: Those interested in wrestling have a lot to look forward to in the coming week.
Star wrestlers, including Olympic bronze medallist Sushil Kumar, are expected to take part in the two-day Bihar Centenary Year All India Federation Cup Wrestling Tournament, to be held as part of the Bihar Divas celebrations from March 12. The competition would be held at the newly built Patliputra Sports Complex in the state capital.
Kameshwar Singh, the secretary of Bihar State Wrestling Association, said: “Apart from Sushil Kumar, the players who are participating in the tournament includes Yogeshwar Dutt and Narsinh Yadav — both gold medallists at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi.”
Both male and female wrestlers would take part in the event. They would be divided into two categories — Greco-roman and freestyle. While the men would wrestle it out in both the categories, the women will take part only in freestyle.
The championship is being organised jointly by Bihar Wrestling Federation and All India Wrestling Federation. About 250 wrestlers, who have taken part in national- and international-level wrestling championships, would participate in the event. The main attraction would be the participation of several Arjuna and Dronacharya awardees.
Singh added that the state was organising the event to promote the sports culture in Bihar. Earlier, kabaddi World Cup and a soccer tournament were organised as part of the centenary celebrations of the state.
