Winter shift for varsity

Central University of South Bihar is likely to shift its academic activities to its permanent 300-acre campus at Panchanpur Gaya, 110km south of Patna, from January.

Phase I of construction has been split into two parts -A and B. Work under part A is racing towards completion by the end of December.

The estimated cost of construction in Phase I is Rs 300 crore, including Rs 11.74 crore for the boundary wall and the entrance plaza. According to university sources, the university has received around Rs 175 crore out of a total of Rs 300 crore sanctioned for first phase part A construction.

Under Phase I, the university will have seven buildings, including the administrative building housing offices of the vice-chancellor, pro vice-chancellor, registrar, examination controller, finance officials and other offices. Phase I will also have two four-storey hostels blocks for girls and boys, respectively, to accommodate 278 students in each block. There will also be two academic blocks - school of social sciences and policy and school of earth biology and environment sciences. In the first phase, construction of the mess, lecture hall-cum-seminar hall is in progress.

Rajiv Upadhyay, the executive engineer carrying out the construction work, said: 'Construction of all the buildings is on in full swing. Phase I Part A construction will be completed by November-December so that classes can be shifted to the new campus by January next year.'

The executive engineer added: 'Once the construction of the Phase I Part A gets over, we have set the target of completing the Part B construction work too by May next year. Upadhyay said the university will have an adequate number of classrooms, labs, hostel accommodations for its students.

The students too were excited. Kumar Ankit, a student of development studies, said: 'We are excited about shifting to the new campus by next year. The new campus is sprawling with all facilities.'

Under Phase I Part B construction of the third academic block, school of education will come up. Also in Part B, guesthouses and the VC's bungalow will be built. The residential quarters of staff, including teaching and non-teaching, will be carried out in the second phase.

To streamline the construction work, the administrative staff have shifted to the Gaya campus. The VC, pro VCs, registrar and other administrative staff are in Gaya to look after the construction work.

Though CUSB started its academic session in 2009, the university got land in 2012 and construction began from 2015.
