The transport department will start the second phase of affixing high security registration plates on vehicles from next Tuesday.

The process will continue for two years. Officials said the department is planning to start the phase with the vehicles of VIPs and senior officers of the state government, as a motivation to the residents to replace their vehicles’ ordinary number plates.

A senior officer in the department said: “We are planning to start the second phase of installing high security registration plates with the vehicles of VIPs, including chief minister, governor, ministers, MLAs and MLCs, judges, bureaucrats and police officers. This would set an example for the common people and motivate them to get their existing number plates replaced with high security registration plates at the earliest. Detailed guidelines regarding the implementation of the second phase of the scheme would be issued by the department in a couple of days.”

District transport officer Dinesh Kumar Rai said the authorities were searching for a new site for another affixation station in Patna for the convenience of vehicle owners. Patna has one at Transport Nagar near Pahadi on the Patna Bypass Road.
