Muzaffarpur, Sept. 21: Voices of dissent have rose among young farmers of 16 villages in Kudhani block against the compensation being offered for acquisition of their agriculture land.

They have threatened to intensify their three-month agitation against the land acquisition department of the district administration for the four-laning of NH-28 (Muzaffarpur-Hajipur).

Gammon India Limited, a construction company, is at present, facing spot protests while trying to acquire the earmarked land. Almost 2,200 farmers of Kudhani are adamant to get commercial compensation for their land, approximately 54 acres, in place of the agricultural compensation they have been offered.

They even prevented supervisors and engineers of Gammon India Limited to visit the earmarked land. The farmers have alleged that attempts are being made to grab their land for the highway.

District magistrate Santosh Mall constituted a committee to verify the land and suggest payment of compensation either on the basis of its agricultural or commercial values.

Mall said he was waiting for the committee’s recommendation based on its findings.
