Patna, Aug. 19: Id this time will not only be about sheer khurma and seviyan for the residents of the state capital. They will also be treated to delicious Sufi music.
The state human resource development (HRD) department will organise a musical night that will feature the famous Wadali brothers on August 30. It will mark the beginning of the state’s centenary year as well.
The HRD department is the nodal executing agency for the Bihar Divas functions that will mark the emergence of the state from the Bengal presidency in 1912.
Wadali brothers, Puranchand and Pyarelal, have created a niche for themselves in Sufi music with hit numbers such as Chehra mere yaar ka from the 2003-flick Dhoop and Ek tu hi tu hai from the yet-to-be-released Shahid Kapoor- and Sonam Kapoor-starrer Mausam. The brothers will perform at SK Memorial Hall on August 30.
The Sufi singers are not the only treat on offer. Famous qawwali singer, Mohammed Farid Saware from Jaipur, would also perform at the function.
Sources said chief minister Nitish Kumar would inaugurate the programme.
R.S. Singh, the deputy director of primary education, said: “With the preparation for the centenary year celebrations picking pace, the state HRD department has formed a committee for various programmes that would be organised on the occasion. The committee will consist of experts who will decide on the means and steps on how to make the Bihar Divas celebrations a grand affair. There will be a committee for folk music and other cultural programmes.”
Apart from these, the various important roundabouts of the state are being decked up. Decorative statues would be put up at these roundabouts.
The state government has also started to construct Shatabdi Stambh (centenary pillar) at Saguna Mor. Nitish had visited the site a few days ago and instructed the officials that the pillar should resemble the centenary celebrations of Bihar.
HRD department officials also said this year Bihar Divas celebrations would be grandeur than functions of previous years. The history of the state, its culture and heritage, traditions and achievement would be highlighted in the function. The celebrations would also showcase the recent achievements of the state.
Functions would be organised in other states and abroad, to connect with the Bihar diaspora.
Sources said Fuji, Surinam and Mauritius would be some of the venues.
