Admission season on, enthusiastic students are hitting heat for a six with tacit support from their parents.

Undeterred by the unbearable weather conditions, Class X passouts are leaving nothing to chance but laying their hands on admission forms of as many schools as they can get.

Reason: Even the top scorers in the boards might not get admission in schools of their desire because of entrance tests in most of the institutions.

Sanjeev Kumar, who cleared his Class X from Shivam School-Nalanda this year, has scored cumulative grade point average (CGPA) 10 (the highest marks). Despite his superb grades, the resident of Anisabad in Patna is not relying on fate but trying all good schools so that he does not miss out on quality higher education.

“I have applied at St Michael’s High School. I have taken their written test. But I am not confident on whether I would qualify. I couldn’t prepare well for the test. So I am a bit jittery. I have already taken admission in a school yet I am aiming for a better one,” said the 14-year-old.

Similar is the case with Vibhuti Yadav, a Sunshine School, Maner, scholar who, too, secured the highest CGPA but is running from pillar to post in the sultry weather so that he does not land in a soup at the eleventh hour.

“I am expecting to clear the St Michael’s entrance test. Its result would be declared on June 6. However, I am collecting admission forms of other good schools too,” said the New Colony Khagaul resident, seen drenched in sweat as the mercury touched 37 degrees on Tuesday. Weathermen said the humidity level was almost 50 per cent, making the day too uncomfortable to step out of houses and offices.

For those queuing up to grab the few leftover admission forms, here’s a statutory warning.

Doctor Diwakar Tejaswi, a renowned practitioner, said: “Do not forget to carry water while stepping out of your house. The heat can take a toll. Cold water can be doubly harmful if taken under the sun. Try to have cucumber rather than having ice cream if you feel hungry. For everyone, an umbrella is a must. Heat strokes can weaken your system. Don’t forget it’s admission time and a lot of hard work is yet to come.”

On the other hand, if the fear of losing out on the chance of getting admission to a renowned school is bothering students, the high fees demanded by the institutions are a cause of worry for the parents.

Kankerbagh resident Mamata, whose son has applied for a St Michael’s seat, is not sure if she would be able to foot the fees of the school. “My son is good in studies but it is not possible for us to pay the fees of two years at one time. Therefore, I am also trying for other schools,” said Mamata.
