Residents drink coconut water at Gandhi Maidan to beat the heat in Patna on Tuesday, when the maximum temperature in the city touched 37.4°C. Weathermen claimed that mercury would continue to rise at least over the next four days. “The maximum temperature in Patna is expected to be in the range of 37°C to 38°C till April 6. The dry westerly winds blowing in the afternoon can cause discomfort to people. The winds, however, would prevent people from sweating much,” said Ashish Sen, director, India Meteorological Department, Patna. Taking advantage of the heat, coconut sellers are doing brisk business by selling the fruit for Rs 20 to Rs 25. Text by Piyush Kumar Tripathi, picture by Jai Prakash |
