The dilapidated building of the referral hospital at Taraiya in the district has become a threat to the residents of the Panapur, Isuapur and Taraiya blocks, who visit the health hub everyday.
The rickety quarters of the doctors might also collapse any moment. The hospital was constructed in 1991.
Taraiya block head Anil Singh said: “The building of this referral hospital has become structurally unsafe. The doctors treat the patients outside the hospital and under the open sky.” The ambulance has been rusting for years. Singh said he had requested district magistrate Vinay Kumar to get the hospital building renovated, but in vain.
Civil surgeon Binay Kumar Yadav said: “Maintenance and construction of hospitals is the responsibility of Bihar State Health Society. It looks after the hospitals and allots work to the building construction department.”
Ran Vijay Singh, a social worker, said: “I approached the district magistrate and former Union and state health ministers Dr C.P. Thakur and Shakuni Chaudhry, requesting them to look into the matter. But nothing happened.”
