The Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad Foundation will honour Pawan Jaiswal, an Independent MLA from Dhaka in Bihar, in Pune later this month.

The 40-year-old Pawan is among 12 legislators from across the country to be bestowed with the Adarsh Yuva Vidhayak Purashkar 2014 on January 12.

The Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad is an apolitical platform that aims to tap youth power. It provides a platform to youths who are socially active and politically sensitive. Every year it organises programmes where youths registered with the foundation take part in competitions that test their leadership skills. It will organise its fifth Indian Student Parliament in Pune from January 10 to 12. The events would be organised on the premises of Maharashtra Institute of Technology, run by the Maharashtra Academy of Engineering Education and Research (MAEER). The event is organised in collaboration with the Union ministry of youth affairs and sports and ministry of higher and technical education and is supported by Unesco.

According to the letter the organisers sent to the Bihar MLA, Pondicherry legislative assembly Speaker B. Sawapathi Kothandaraman would felicitate the MLAs, including Pawan, on the concluding day of the student parliament.

Around 10,000-12,000 youths, social activists and political leaders from different states of the country are expected at the event.

Union minister for consumer affairs, food and public distribution Ram Vilas Paswan and noted scientist Sameer Kumar are among eminent speakers who would address youth at the function.

The foundation's officer on special duty (institutional relations) Sachin Jain said the legislator's approach towards politics is a guiding principle during the selection process. 'The Research Committee, which selects names, speaks to Speakers of the legislative Assembly concerned and also to Assembly secretaries of the states to get inputs about the MLAs. Minute details regarding social conduct and public interest activities of the legislators are also gathered from different officials working in the state Assembly,' Jain said.

Pawan has actively participated in social activities. Under the banner of Ram Rahim Sena, of which he is the founding president, he has conducted group marriages in different parts of East Champaran in the past four years.

The MLA appeared elated over his selection on the basis of his work.

He said he would urge participating youths to never give up the path of struggle to achieve desired goals.
