A property dealer with strong RJD links was shot at in Patna on Thursday.

Vishwanath Yadav alias Bodha Gope (55) was critically injured by criminals at his Nayatola residence under the jurisdiction of Agamkuan police station. The incident comes a day after the murder of building developer Shailesh Kumar Singh (42).

Gope has been admitted to a private nursing home on Khajanchi Road.

The incident occurred around 7am when Gope was reading a newspaper on the ground floor of his two-storeyed building. Three youths barged into his house and one of them pumped a bullet into his abdomen. Thereafter, they made their escape good from the spot.

The victim’s relatives ran towards him after hearing the gunshot and got Gope admitted to a private nursing home where he was operated upon. Gope was engaged in real estate business for a long time and in the process he developed animosity with one Yantri Yadav alias Yantri Gope.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said four persons, including the prime accused Yantri, have been arrested. “Old enmity with Yantri was stated to be the reason behind the attack on the RJD leader,” he added.

Yantri’s three associates have been identified as Babloo, Bhim and Nishant. The four have been named accused in the FIR lodged with the Agamkuan police station, the SSP said, adding that the firearms used in the crime were yet to be recovered.

The SSP said Yantri had criminal antecedents and was involved in gambling not only in Patna but also in Hajipur (Vaishali). “He was released from jail recently,” he said, adding that the four arrested in connection with the attack would be forwarded to jail after interrogation.

On the other hand, the Agamkuan police have failed to make any breakthrough in connection with the murder of Shailesh Kumar Singh.

Singh, the managing director of Kalindi Construction Private Limited, was shot dead by three criminals when he had gone to supervise the construction work at Paharipad on Wednesday.

The Patna SSP said two persons — Sandiksha and her brother Pravin — have been made named accused in the FIR lodged in connection with the murder of the builder. Sandiksha is the wife of Rakesh Kumar, a former business partner of Singh, Maharaj added.
