Patna: Though the Patna University administration is yet to announce dates for the students' union election expected this year, student bodies associated with political parties have started to pull their poll socks up.
The Left-backed AISF has urged likeminded students bodies to come together to defeat the RSS student wing ABVP.
"We have appealed to all Left-backed students unions such as AISA, SFI, AIDSO and other students unions such as NSUI, and the students' wing of the RJD to cement an alliance," said AISF state secretary Sushil Kumar.
In the last students' union election held in 2012, out of five key university posts the ABVP won the president's post while the vice-president and general secretary posts went to the AISF, the JDU students' wing won the secretary post, and the RJD's students' wing won the treasurer post.
Kumar said: "Our focus is to restrict ABVP so that the BJP backed students union fails to win any seat."
Manoj Kumar, a Patna College student, felt that if AISF, AISA, NSUI and the RJD stu8dents' wing go for an alliance the poll will be one-sided and the ABVP and the JDU's students' wing "will have to work hard to win any seats".
Pappu Verma of the ABVP, however, pooh-poohed the contention and said: "We are ready to face any challenge."
