Police on Monday morning rescued 12-year-old Mohammad Faizan, allegedly kidnapped for ransom from Murgiachak village in the Patna rural area about a week ago, from Mumbai. One of the kidnappers was also arrested.
Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Jitendra Rana said a team was sent to Mumbai after getting information that the boy had been taken to Maharashtra by the alleged kidnappers. The criminals were in constant touch with the victim’s family to collect ransom.
Rana said the cellphone of the kidnappers was kept under the surveillance of the special police team. The members of the special team headed by a deputy superintendent of police rescued the boy when he was being shifted to another destination. “The identity of the arrested kidnapper is being ascertained,” he added.
Rana said the victim’s father Mohammad Misar Ansari, an autorickshaw driver, had lodged a complaint with the Janipur police station on October 13 alleging that his son had been kidnapped.
The kidnappers used to change their hideout after every four hours, making the task of the special team more difficult. Finally, one of the suspects was taken into custody, who helped the police rescue the kidnapped boy safely. “The boy was earlier taken to Mumbai from Patna by a train,” an investigating officer said.
The police claimed that the kidnappers were trying to shift the 12-year-old victim to Varanasi from Mumbai because of intensive raids at their hideouts. He said the victim’s father had apprehended the involvement of some local criminals, who were at daggers drawn with the former.
