Patna, April 15: The city police today claimed to have found many leads in the investigation of the gangrape of a 17-year-old girl hailing from Burnpur in Bengal.

Police sources said the investigation is on track and the case will be solved soon. The cops, however, refused to divulge more details saying the investigations are underway. Patna senior superintendent of police Alok Kumar told The Telegraph that the police are working hard to trace the culprits and arrest them.

“Police teams have been formed and they are raiding several locations to arrest those involved in the crime. The case will be cracked very soon,” the officer said.

Police sources said that the victim has been presently kept in the women’s remand home at Gai Ghat in Patna City.

“The parents of the girl have not come here yet. The information regarding the incident has been given to them and they are expected to be here for their daughter by tomorrow. Once they are in the city, the police will hand over the victim to them,” a police officer said.

The girl had come to Patna from Burnpur with her boyfriend on April 12 at around 9.30pm. They were supposed to meet a friend at the station. However, the girl had a fight with her boyfriend and suddenly the boy left her and disappeared.

According to her statement, she knew someone living in the Kadamkuan area and boarded an autorickshaw for the same. The driver took her to some unknown location and called his friends and they took turns to rape her.

An FIR with regard to the same was lodged at the Kotwali police station the next morning and the police immediately launched a manhunt to locate the accused.

A police team was sent to Burnpur while other teams are searching for the accused in and around the state capital.

Policemen said checks on autorickshaw drivers were also being carried put and there will be an identification parade for some of the suspected persons in front of the girl soon.

There is confusion in the girl’s narration of the crime. She has been changing her statements time and again probably due to shock that she has suffered, said police.

First she said that one auto-driver took her to the Agamkuan area where she suddenly decided to go back to Patna Junction. The driver then asked her to board another auto and it was the second auto-driver who took her to some secluded spot and raped her with his friends.

Next, she said that she got into an auto in which people already sitting to go to Agamkuan. The driver then took her to a deserted place and the passengers and the driver were involved in her rape.
