Patna, March 24: The government has sent 30 senior police officers a reminder to submit their asset details after their failure to complete the procedure by the last date.

In 2010, chief minister Nitish Kumar had instructed all personnel - Grade IV employees to even ministers - to declare their movable and immovable property details for upload on the government's website annually for public scrutiny.

This year, the home department had set a deadline of February 28 to complete the work. It was later revised to March 21 on the request of some officers who were outside Bihar for mid-career training.

Still, 30 senior officers - 16 officers in the rank of superintendent of police (SP), four in the rank of deputy inspector-general and 10 others in different ranks - have failed to submit details of their movable and immovable assets. A senior official in the home department, not authorised to speak to the media on this matter, today said reminders have been sent to the officers.

The reminder issued yesterday states the officers have till March 31 to file their details.

"According to records available with us, 30 police officers have not filed details of their property. As a result, the work to upload the data on the official website of the government has been hampered," said the official.

The official added that the personnel had to submit their property in the prescribed format that had been provided in advance to the depart-ment concerned (read police headquarters).

An IPS officer posted in the state police headquarters said 12 out of the 16 SP-rank officers were posted in different districts. Majority of them had gone for mid-career training programme in phases.

An SP posted in a north Bihar district said though his name didn't feature on the list of officers who missed the deadline, he too was lagging in the declaration of assets and liabilities. "I will send my details in a day or two," the SP said.

He said some officers in the rank of senior superintendent of police have also been unable to declare their property within the timeframe.

Last month, Kaimur district magistrate Rajeshwar Prasad Singh had withheld salaries of around 600 employees who were unable to submit details of their assets and liabilities within the stipulated period.

Singh's initiative, a first-of- its-kind in the state, paid dividends with over 400 employees filing property details in the PDF format within two days. "The rest also submitted the details. You need to lead by example," Rajeshwar had said.
